Expanded Form of Numbers

The expanded form of a number is given by the sum of the place values of its digits in the hundreds, tens ones places.

A three digit number consists of three digit. For example

285  is three digit number where 2 is at hundreds place, 8 is at tens place and 5 is at ones.

 

The place value of the digits are

Place value of 5 is 5 x 1 = 5

Place value of 8 is 8 x 10 = 80

Place value of 2 is 2 x 100 = 200.

The expanded form of 285 is 200 + 80 + 5.

 

Similarly the expanded form of 728 is 700 + 20 + 8.
